The 05 grand cherokee - with more upgrades marked drastic improvements in the models and the good old 4.7-liter V-8 was replaced by an extremely powerful 5.7-liter HEMI V-8 engine that could generate 370 lb-ft of torque, and 325 horsepower.
More sophistication was introduced in the vehicle with new dynamic handling system and stability control system, facilitating steadier on-road abilities. Another interesting offering in the 05 version vehicle was the Quadra-Drive II system that added off-road capabilities to the vehicle by employing electronic limited-slip differentials.
Its driving and handling qualities also improved to a good extent with the help of five-link array in the rear and independent front suspension facilitating enchanced steering control.
Luxury and Entertainment Features
What’s more, luxury and entertainment features such as DVD video package, navigation system, hands-free “Bluetooth” communication system, audiophile Boston Acoustics stereo, and rear Park Assist warnings were also included in the new model, making it far superior in comparison to its predecessors.
Mileage
However, the major issue of high fuel consumption still remained more or less unaddressed as there was minor improvement in fuel economy and the 05 model was expected to deliver 17mpg on city streets, though it could hardly deliver 15mpg in reality.
